A
potted history.
I
began a Human Resource career in 1979 in the financial services
sector. I became Team Leader in ’86 directly supporting the
Sales Division in Scotland, NE England and Northern Ireland. This
led to an opportunity to focus on the development of potential and
existing first-line and middle managers and I changed direction
in 1990 and took on a role focusing mainly on developmental coaching,
training interventions and formal assessment centres.
In
1994 I joined a team of UK-based internal business consultants with
responsibility for business development across the entire sales
force (some 14,000 at the time). Interventions included strategic
development and business planning, marketing and sales, design and
delivery of assessment boards and post-event development plans,
leadership and high-level influencing and negotiating skills. Most
of my time was spent working closely with Business Managers across
a range of functions helping them to get the best out of their business
areas.
Joined
ABBEY NATIONAL plc as a Senior Training Manager working with the
(in-house) Fund Management Division based in Glasgow, providing
an internal development consultancy service I was also responsible
for the design and delivery of all management development programmes
for all management levels across the Abbey National business divisions.
Internally “head-hunted” I went to work with the Sales
& Marketing Division and operated as a internal business consultant
for the branch network, working in close partnership with Senior
Managers in the Division.
Over
time I developed some of my own training colleagues to deliver formal
management training courses and this allowed me to begin concentrating
on personal coaching as my key lever in changing how the business
was run and how people behaved within it.
My
own learning journey has taken me deeper and deeper into personal
development through effective coaching and I found in the summer
of 2001 that I needed to go freelance to be able to pursue this
calling. Threw off my corporate shackles and went freelance at the
beginning of 2002…. Indeed to realise my own potential !!
Since then I’ve worked with…
